This athulpatha reed basket is a large, traditional tray from Sri Lanka. Also, skilled weavers make it by hand from reed plant leaf, also known as pan leaf. People use it for drying spices and serving food.
Size of the athulpatha reed basket
First, you get one large basket. It is about 13 to 16 inches wide. However, every basket is handmade, so the size is not exact.
Made from natural reed leaf
Local weavers use many weaving skills to make each basket. They weave the reed leaf into a flat, strong tray. As a result, every basket looks a little different. Also, the colour and the pattern may differ from the photo, and you cannot choose them.
Many uses for your athulpatha reed basket
Traditionally, families use the athulpatha as a large tray. For example, you can air dry produce, chillies and spices in it. Moreover, you can use it to carry and serve food, or to keep fruit and vegetables.
Eco friendly and non-toxic
Reed leaf is an eco friendly and non-toxic material. So you can replace plastic trays with a natural choice. Also, you support skilled Sri Lankan weavers when you buy it.
Easy care for your athulpatha reed basket
Wipe the basket with a dry cloth. Then keep it in a dry place. Also, keep it dry after use.
