Sri Lankan Kulla
This is also known as a winnower in English, and is used for various purposes. Traditionally “winnower,” which is used in the process of separating rice grains from their husks or chaff. The winnower is an essential tool in rice processing, particularly in countries where rice is a staple food, such as Sri Lanka. in Sri Lanka, winnowing is often done manually using a wooden winnowing basket, which is typically made from woven bamboo or other materials. he winnower consists of a shallow, circular basket with a wide rim and a slightly concave bottom. Farmers or workers toss the mixture of rice grains and chaff into the air, allowing the wind to blow away the lighter chaff while the heavier rice grains fall back into the basket.
The use of the Kulla
The use of the Kulla has been replaced by many other household equipment’s. Nowadays the is mostly used as ornaments or as home and restaurant decorations. The Sri lankan Kulla or winnower is also taken as a dancing instrument , to do the village dance and many culturel concerts.
